Home Again

We were in a rush to get home because I had to leave for a trip for work, we learned it we had a water leak in our front yard, and it was mine and Eric's wedding anniversary! So, we decided to drive straight from DC home!

The kids started out really nice... But they ended up like this...And grumpy like this...
Thus, it was amazing that when we stopped for lunch that they sat like this!
Nonetheless, we are glad to be home! We had a great time, but there is just something about sleeping in your own bed!

A Trip Down Memory Lane

We went on road trips often when I was a child. We drove to California, Vegas, DC, Florida...all over the US! However, of all the trips we made, there are a few that I REALLY remember.

Visiting Colonial Williamsburg is one of those few places I remember fondly from my childhood. Perhaps it it because Williamsburg was also the name of my childhood neighborhood, but nonetheless, I remember the colonial town with vivid fondness.

Thus, I was determined to visit there on our trip to DC, and on our way home we were able to spend the afternoon there! This was just as I remembered! I know the town is mean for one to feel as if they have stepped back in time, but I felt that way for so many more reasons! I felt as if I was 8 again!Daddy, this history buff, was delighted to share stories with his sons as they walked the colonial streets. We checked out each of the houses along the streets...It makes me laugh...no matter what, the kids always find amusement in the thing least impressive to me! While we were in Colonial Williamsburg they found amusement with two things...the first of them being FENCES! And, this was the second of them... ???If I knew they liked being locked up so much... ha!I hate this picture of me, but Ballerina was so happy! It was truly a great afternoon! I hope that my children have the same fond memories of Colonial Williamsburg as I do!

Back at the Smithsonian!

We spend another day doing nothing but the Smithsonian museums that we were unable to get to previously!

Below are some of the kids favorite Smithsonian hit spots!Cannon was amused with the American Idol, but the other two were less interested...FAR less interested!
G loved the hands-on wind display at the American History museum.
And, that is where Cannon loved another wind display! The three boys were amazed that there was REALLY stuff from the movie Night at the Museum all through the Smithsonian! G was beside himself! (Funny...later that night when we were back at Cambrey and Joe's he asked me if the museum was alive yet! Ha!)More fun with the transportation...
Yet the MOST awesome thing to them was seeing a street sign from their HOMETOWN in the museum!
We would have been able to see more, but we were stopped for OVER and HOUR 2 TIMES waiting on the Vice President! We were told that he was in the 2nd car...

Still more to come!

Mount Vernon

Perhaps one of our favorite DC spots was Mount Vernon! I was the only one that had ever been there before, so it made the trip super fun! It was even more fun to be able to ride the ferry over to it with Joe and Adam!We were able to see where out first president was laid to rest...Yet, the kids were far more entertained with the skink...I thought they were enthralled with the tomb, but this was what they were looking at! They had fun taking in the sights with Daddy and Uncle Joe...But yet again, they were more enthralled with the living creatures than anything from our country's incredible past...This bald eagle (that I could not get a decent picture of) was one of their favorite things!Oh, and Uncle Joe's skit with Ballerina's hat...We then took the ferry back down the Potomac where Ballerina and her cousin engaged in their typical...fighting! It is always funny until one of them gets hurt, and then their smiles turn to dramatic tears! And, no adventure would be complete without Ballerina waning to pose for a session with the camera! She entertained the entire group on the ferry with this session! "Take me peeecture Mommy! Take it!" Thanks to Joe and Cambrey for another great day in DC!
