Slap Across the Face

Some things just slap you across the face.

I mean, there are some things that you are simply not ready for that just seem to sneak up on you...and you never know how to react to them when they are in the midst of happening.

Cannon moving onto intermediate school = slap across our face.

It is not that we had not suspected that this was coming (Yes, we are aware that he has been in elementary school for a while now); however, the whole reality of the situation...and the fact that he will be going somewhere new, different, and not at an elementary school seems...well, it is just downright weird!

We do not know how to react to this weirdness, and we are certainly not ready to accept the change quite yet.

At dinner Eric and I discussed our apprehension to this transition to intermediate school...Theoretically, we like the idea. It is a given that we are better with pre-teens and teens than we are with toddlers. Eric said, "You know, we both like this age he is approaching...after all, it is what we both love to teach!"

And, then it the slap knocked us to the ground...

Yea, Cannon is quickly becoming one of the kids we teach!

We love teaching this age, but being the parent to one of these "bizarre little people"...We are not so sure that we will know how to handle it! It is one thing to love to teach them, but parenting pre-teens and teens is a whole other story!

Nonetheless, Cannon's successful progression through his academic career is invertible. And, despite our parenting apprehensions and our prayer for time to stand still, he will continue to move on, to grow and will ultimately become a man.

Oh, crud! I just slapped myself! I take it back...Cannon might be moving on to intermediate school, but he will forever be a pre-teen! Ha!

In all seriousness, he "graduated" today...May this be a stepping stone in his fruitful academic career.
