Great-Grandparents

How many little ones get to do this with their great-grandparents?
Hug their Nana...
and their Papa...

My only sadness, that this little one did not get to see her other great-grandparents. Yet, when I REALLY think about it, she is blessed to just know the ones she does!
While Sabrina graciously did my hair (And, I must say, she is awesome!), all the Coker men partook in the fishing and kayaking out at the lake. Poor G... He spent most of the morning at the shop with the girls! We so should have taken him to the lake. However, he did get in a new minutes of fun! But, like always, Ballerina was grumpy...imagine that! And, this I HAD to document just in case it turned bad! Yet, I am glad to report all turned out well, and Randy made it safely to shore!Soon to return...

A Fascinating New Friend

Ballerina was really upset this afternoon that all of the boys were playing on the street and that she did not have a friend of her own.Mommy attempted to help Ballerina, and tried to fill that friend role for her. But, Ballerina was not real interested in being Mommy's friend. It just made her grumpy, and she looked the other way.I suggested that she befriend the cat, Nemo. But, she just laughed at me like I had lost my mind. Until she found Shadow. And, oh how fascinated she was with him...
I think Shadow might be hew new best friend.
Until the sun goes down anyway...

Slap Across the Face

Some things just slap you across the face.

I mean, there are some things that you are simply not ready for that just seem to sneak up on you...and you never know how to react to them when they are in the midst of happening.

Cannon moving onto intermediate school = slap across our face.

It is not that we had not suspected that this was coming (Yes, we are aware that he has been in elementary school for a while now); however, the whole reality of the situation...and the fact that he will be going somewhere new, different, and not at an elementary school seems...well, it is just downright weird!

We do not know how to react to this weirdness, and we are certainly not ready to accept the change quite yet.

At dinner Eric and I discussed our apprehension to this transition to intermediate school...Theoretically, we like the idea. It is a given that we are better with pre-teens and teens than we are with toddlers. Eric said, "You know, we both like this age he is approaching...after all, it is what we both love to teach!"

And, then it the slap knocked us to the ground...

Yea, Cannon is quickly becoming one of the kids we teach!

We love teaching this age, but being the parent to one of these "bizarre little people"...We are not so sure that we will know how to handle it! It is one thing to love to teach them, but parenting pre-teens and teens is a whole other story!

Nonetheless, Cannon's successful progression through his academic career is invertible. And, despite our parenting apprehensions and our prayer for time to stand still, he will continue to move on, to grow and will ultimately become a man.

Oh, crud! I just slapped myself! I take it back...Cannon might be moving on to intermediate school, but he will forever be a pre-teen! Ha!

In all seriousness, he "graduated" today...May this be a stepping stone in his fruitful academic career.

The Dearest of Friends

Some important people in my life have lost some of their dearest friends in recent days.

I have said before that I hate the fact that sometimes takes a tragedy to remind us of our blessings and to trust in Our Maker's infinite wisdom.

While I do not personally know either of those that passed away, knowing those that cared so deeply about them has reminded me of many things...of the importance of friendships, the deepness of relationships, the value of "support networks," the impact each of us DO have, to cherish each moment with those that are important to me, and to that He ultimately knows best.

To the families and friends of Jon and Maura, I know you know the lives of those you loved have impacted you; however, know the lives they lived and their legacy that will live on has reminded me -- someone who knows neither of them -- so much.

With gratefulness, and in grace...

In the Backyard

We are looking forward to summer...and more time like this in the backyard!

Pneumonia

My sweet Ballerina has pneumonia.
Sick little ones is for the pitts! 104 degree temperatures and feeling icky...not fun...and a horrible way to spend a holiday weekend.

Making Choices

I am choosing to ignore the fact that the oldest will be heading to intermediate school in the fall and will no longer be that the elementary school that I have grown accustomed to him being. Therefore, I will not be showing pictures of the 4th grade swim party where they celebrated the end of their elementary school career...Instead, I am making the choice to show pictures of what I would choose to do every evening if we could...And, of all the choices I am making, I AM certainly making the choice to publish the picture of G peeing... Absolutely!

No, Not Me!

There are certain things I swore I would never do as a mother...

I was never going to let my children in wander in Target wearing an outfit they had worn for 4 days straight, barefoot with a snotty nose. Nope, I was never going to do something like that!

Yea, I was not going to be the kind of mother to let her daughter roam the street in a diaper or her son to play with friends his friends in the front yard in his underwear...Nor was I ever going to be the kind of mother that ever forgot about school pictures, left lunch boxes at home, or counted swimming as baths for the evening.

But, all of those things that I swore I would never do, I have certainly done, so why was I holding out on driving the minivan that I swore I would never drive?
Yea, I do not know...Of all the things I swore I would never do as a mother, holding out on the "kid's limo" was the craziest!
